Jack Bergman

Jack Bergman was born February 2, 1947, in Shakopee, Minnesota. He went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 2009, completing a forty-year military career. In 1994, he moved to Watersmeet, Michigan. Bergman was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and rose to the rank of Lieutenant General. During his career, he served as a pilot, flying CH-46 helicopters in North Carolina, Japan and in the Republic of Vietnam. In 1975, he left active duty and served in the National Guard and Marine Corps Reserve. General Bergman later returned to Marine Corps active duty as Director of Reserve Affairs at Quantico, Virginia, and concluded his career as Commander of Marine Forces Reserve from 2005 to 2009. General Bergman has served his community, state, and country in many capacities, from his decades-long military service to his various private-sector ventures. In 2016, Bergman was elected to the United States Congress for Michigan’s First Congressional District, serving Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. As a veteran-centric leader in Congress, he was instrumental in the passage of the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act in the House of Representatives, thereby helping to ensure that our armed forces have the resources needed to maintain our national security.
