Major General Robert W. Smith III, USA (Ret.), served with distinction in the U.S. Army for over 35 years. His military career spanned multiple commands, including Commander of the 84th Division and the 300th Military Police Command. Smith’s service included combat in Vietnam, and he held leadership roles overseeing training and operational control of U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard units. Smith earned numerous accolades, including the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, and Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster. In addition to his military achievements, he played a pivotal role in veteran services, helping to secure the VA Great Lakes Cemetery in Holly, Michigan, and working as Michigan’s Director of Veteran Services, improving services for veterans statewide. A dedicated advocate for veterans, Smith has given countless speeches on veteran issues and has been involved in initiatives like Veteran Treatment Courts and the Michigan Military and Veterans Hall of Honor.
